My Project

I am a middle school math/science teacher at a neighborhood K-8 elementary school in North Philadelphia. I will be working with 6th-grade students. As with most schools, my students are on multiple academic levels, and my job is to teach them new material while reminding them about past material that they learned. I teach at a Title I school.

My students are creative, kind, funny, and driven.

They want to participate in lab experiments while looking like scientists. I want to give them lab coats and goggles to give them real-life experience as a scientist. I want to allow them to expand their horizons in all areas of life. I feel this will improve their outlook on the field of science, and it will build their self-esteem. The bean bags would serve as calming, relaxing mechanisms in the science nook.

These materials will enhance their science learning and help them grasp what it is to be a scientist. Many students are visual learners, and the lab coats and goggles will majorly affect their STEM education. Students will create cell models, planetary diagrams, and illustrative projects such as the weather and water systems to understand earth science.
