Can you imagine walking into a big, bright beautiful kindergarten classroom on the first day of school and imagining all the possibilities for the year to come? That's what my students and I do everyday. Outwardly, my classroom provides the safety, comfort and ideal setting for student learning!
Beyond our beautiful classrooms, the issues turn up.
Our school, still displaced in a temporary location following Hurricane Katrina, was never able to replace the materials we lost in the storm. The students entering my classroom never knew what school was like before August 29, 2005. The students coming in now enter with open minds and possibilities of the dreams they have of coming to school. They are eager and willing to learn. Their parents are engaged and want to be a part of their learning experience. I, as their teacher, want to provide them with the most effective, engaging, memorable kindergarten experience that I can! Unfortunately, my school district and I cannot do it alone. With budgeting downfalls, our children do not have the materials they need to be successful. That's where you come in!
Through amazing donors we were able to salvage and obtain many reading supplies and some mathematics supplies. Sadly, all of our science materials were destroyed and even seven years later, we have been unable to replace what was lost. Due to our budget cutbacks, we do not even have a science curriculum. With the changes in our environment and the world around us, exposure is key! The Activity Tubs and Kits I am requesting will provide my students with a comprehensive science curriculum that is designed to be interactive and fun thus encouraging my students to seek out scientific experiments. The library books I am requesting correlate directly to the activity tubs, so that students begin to see that all learning is related and we can use our knowledge in many different ways. These materials would provide my students with enough science activities for the whole school year, and many years to come!
With your help, my students will be given the science foundation they need to one day change the world.
Who knows, I may be teaching the person who will one day cure cancer, fight global warming, invent the flying car, discover a new species, or maybe even walk on the moon. Without science now, we may never know. Please help us. You can be the person that sends my students on a whirlwind adventure in science!
