My Students

Do you remember what it was like to read that boring science textbook? At my school, we immerse students in Expeditions of Learning to better prepare them for what awaits them in the real world 21st century. Therefore, we want to arm students with cutting edge technology and learning opportunities.

We are a NYC public school with public school needs.

My students come from many economic backgrounds. They are from many countries around the world and they are at different academic levels. We range from special education students to the very high functioning students. They attend an expeditionary learning school, where textbooks are rarely used and experiences and field work help students to build lasting connection with the subject matter. We believe in cross-curricular learning expeditions, where all subjects contribute to a common subject matter. In this way, we are utilizing more skills than just traditional pencil and paper abilities. This type of teaching necessitates great preparation on behalf of the teachers and greater attention on behalf of the students. Due to this intense and enriching environment, some students can feel challenged because we are pushing thinking and requiring higher order thinking skills in order to complete a task.

My Project

These tablets will assist students conduct research on fieldwork, inform our science class and products, and better our community as a whole. The tablets will be available during class for students to conduct additional research during numerous projects and give them continuous access their digital portfolios. Technology motivates our students to learn and gives them necessary experience in conducting live research. This skill is transferable to students of all interest and knowledge bases. No matter what the future holds for our students, the ability to operate and navigate technological devices and utilize the data collected will be a valuable asset in any field.

This project is important because you are giving over 120, sixth grade NYC public school students tools they need to investigate, to collect data, to better understand science, and to conduct independent investigation.
