My Students

The best way to learn science is by doing it. Reading about things you have never tried often makes little sense. Doing science provides students with the opportunity to understand, to experiment, to critically think and question, to record data, and to discover a love for a science.

My students are hard working kids.

They are bright and inquisitive. Most live in poverty and have little background knowledge in science. They are eager for opportunities to do science, to discover new things, and make new connections. They enjoy science so much they often ask to stay in from recess so they can learn more. Each time they get the chance to experiment for themselves they discover a little more about the world around them, new things that interest them, and new pathways they would like to explore.

My Project

I have been teaching science for over six years and during that time I have amassed quite a few science supplies. However each year, things wear out, new experiments are happened upon, and old activities lead to new things we would like to try. The components I am asking for will help my students continue to learn about and experiment with electricity. They will be learning their fourth grade science standards in the best way possible, by doing. The snap circuits kits will provide more science learning during free time or rainy day recesses. They will allow the students to explore without being teacher led. The other components will round out our existing electricity supplies. They will be used for student inquiry and experiments during class time. Student will learn how to wire circuits in both series and parallel. They will learn how a simple motor works. They will learn how to swap out components and how to wire a circuit based on a drawn diagram.

Please consider donating to this project.

Every year my students tell me electricity is one of their favorite science units. You are helping my students build a better future for themselves, you are showing them that science is exciting, and your donations help them to discover new pathways and career areas they would like to investigate. This materials will be used by this years class and also by students in the future.
