Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember when you were in school and staring at a book that was boring? My students have a difficult time reading and writing, therefore, many challenges arise. Since literacy is difficult for them, differentiated instruction and multi-sensory approaches must be applied. Hands on learning!

The Middle School students that attend the Charter School that I work for have been diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

They attend a specialized school setting for only students on the spectrum. The school was designed to help those individuals that needs more intensive instruction in the areas of communication, behaviors, and self-help skills. Their disability alone is challenging enough, therefore, it is my job as their teacher to help guide them and differentiate each lesson to tailor to their individual needs. They learn through a multi-sensory approach and need a lot of modifications and accommodations to their curriculum.

My Project

Lights, microscopes, action! Having these resources and manipulatives in the class would help my students become more aware of areas in the Social Sciences. They can interact and experience things they have never seen before. For example, they can be able to see things that are inside their body. They can look at cells under the microscope, or x-rays on the light table. They can interact in class by writing on dry-erase boards and holding up the answer. They can complete Science labs. Ultimately, they will have the multi-sensory learning input that they need to have a positive successful year!

Donations to this project will make a positive impact on my students with autism.

It will give them opportunities and hands-on experiences to help them have a better understanding of the Social Sciences.
