My Students

Excited, Energetic, Entertaining! This is how you would describe the students in my Science classes. Of course the first question I get every year is, Mr. are we actually dissecting Frogs?! To which I have to reply, no- not in this school. However, after that deflating response I do go into the different topics we will cover, from designing experiments to learning about reproduction (of which I usually hear ewws). 15-1 classes are restrictive classes used to support students with learning disabilities/difficulties. The classroom environment must then have the accommodations and tools to increase student participation and enhance learning. Every student deserves to have the necessary accommodations to help them process and satisfy their insatiable appetite for knowledge.

Having road blocks in the midst of learning is a daily struggle for my students.

It is the job of the teacher and staff to make the journey through every lesson manageable and enjoyable, luckily these students have the will power and desire to overcome these learning obstacles and strive for the same academic/life goals as any other student.

My Project

Understanding science concepts within a 44 minute time frame can seem daunting. Factor in learning disabilities/difficulties and the subject could outright deter any student. Hopefully with the help of technology, both in and out of the classroom, that perspective could change. Having Chromebooks in the classroom would not only help demonstrate different science principles but make them that much more engaging. In addition to an extra tool for understanding concepts, the technology could be used for looking at real world data- something that textbooks simply lack. Engaging students with disabilities entails activating multiple senses which would be facilitated by these Chromebooks.

Finally, living and prospering in this modern world requires a familiarity and mastery of technology.

By having more structured screen time my students would have the chance to further their tech skills and boost their confidence in tackling any facet of life after high school.
