My Students

I teach two groups of fourth-grade students. Our district is in a low-income, rural, economically depressed area of Pennsylvania. My students may be economically disadvantaged, but they deserve the same learning experiences as all other students across the United States.

Sixty-two percent of my students receive both free breakfast and lunch, as well as backpack food every weekend.

Our school runs this free food program because our students wouldn't have enough food to eat throughout the weekend, away from school if we didn't step in and supply it. Being a child today is not an easy task. Despite these many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they will be successful students.

My Project

I teach science and ELA. I want to use these 3Doodler pens to combine science, ELA, and technology to allow my students to express their creativity. They will research and write about a science tool, such as a weather vane, a microscope, or a bunsen burner. Then they will have the opportunity to use the 3Doodler materials to construct a 3-D model of their science tool. Lastly, they will present to the class their research and share their model of the science tool. This will be extremely useful for the science PSSA, which we take in fourth grade. The possibilities with these materials will be endless, and I am certain my students will love this project.
