Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in a small middle school, in an area of Oakland with a very high percentage of students in poverty. If you walk into my 7th grade life science classroom you will see inspirational posters, classroom objectives and goals, and information about the scientific method hung up on the wall. You will see desks. What you won't see are any reference resources for my students. I am looking for reference books and educational posters. I am writing this proposal to bring resources into my classroom to enable my students to answer their own questions. Questions about HOW to conduct a science fair project. Questions about WHAT that insect is that they found in their yard and brought in for me to identify. Questions about HOW flower parts fit together. Questions about HOW mitosis looks different than meiosis. These resources will be used during units on cells, genetics, plants, and invertebrates. I want to make my classroom rich with materials for students to look at to not only answer their own questions, but to stimulate new ones. I am an enthusiastic and devoted teacher. I have incredible learners. We just don't have all of the resources I would like them to have to really encourage them to seek out information. Thank you for considering my proposal!
