My Project

Students in Grades K-5 visit the science room twice a week for 45 minutes. They are active participants that observe, think and wonder about the world around them. They are eager to communicate and discuss any science topic or phenomenon they are presented with. They enjoy sharing and building on each other's ideas. They are truly scientists experimenting to learn new things.

The timers requested will provide a visual for each team of students to stay on task throughout our science discussions and activities.

The set of timers will be placed at each table. Students may be directed to discuss a question for 2 minutes or record findings in 15 minutes. Students will be able to see the colorful timers. This will help them to recognize how important it is to stay focused and complete the task at hand. They will take ownership of their learning as they remind each other of the timer and how they need to complete their work in a timely manner.

Students will also use the timers to take turns talking to one another, agreeing or disagreeing respectfully about an idea. For example, students may be given 3 minutes to share their findings or observations with their team. Once finished, they can pass the timer to their partner allowing them to have the same opportunity to share. This will help to ensure that each team member has a voice that is equally important and valued.
