My Students

Do you remember the first moment that science came alive for you? Was it when you saw chlorophyll moving within a cell? Was it when you discovered that magnets can float? My project is designed to build on my students' moment of wonder, to create the future scientists of America.

My school is a happy, joyful place, filled with bright and enthusiastic learners.

My middle school students are motivated to achieve, and want to explore and investigate their world. They dearly wish to have engaging labs with an inquiry-based science program. In fact, our greatest limitation to implementing an inquiry-based science program is our lack of funding, resources, and materials. Helping to resource our lab will not only enrich our curriculum, it will help the teachers build on our students' interests and abilities in science.

My Project

My students need 1 Nutrient Analysis and 3 slide kits for labs, 200 blank slides to make slides, 5 stopwatches to time chemical reactions, and other basic lab supplies. Microscope Labs The microscope slides will be used in labs in 7th and 8th grades. My 8th graders will be creating their own slides, while the 7th and 5th graders will be making observations of plant and animal cells. Food Nutrition Kit My 7th graders will use this kit to test for lipids, proteins and carbohydrates in food. They will determine whether foods marketed as fat-free are, in fact, fat free. Independent Investigations and Inquiry (AKA: Fun!) I like to have lots of play stations in my classroom. The magnets will be placed on a wall (I am building a wall of magnets) for my students to enjoy.

This Donor's Choose project is so very important to my students and my school.

It will encourage my students, expand and enrich the current curriculum, and move us towards a truly inquiry-based science program. The materials in this project will have an impact school-wide. I will use the materials for my 6th, 7th, 8th graders, and teachers from the younger grades will also be using the supplies.
