Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title 1 school in Queens NY where 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Some of my students live in homeless shelters near by. My students want to come to school because it is a stable, comfortable, safe environment for them. Sadly many students dread vacation breaks because they do not know if they will have food on the table.

The future of the world is in my classroom today.

Many of my students are immigrants and they have to teach their parents how to speak English. In my classroom there are many visuals and hands on activities to help the students learn more english.

My classroom is a safe haven of learning and laughing that my students and I cherish. We use positive language and participate in a program called Leader In Me. This helps the students have positive relationships with others and teaches them to believe in themselves. My goal as a teacher is to leave them with lessons and confidence to succeed in life.

My Project

Having Chrome Books for my students will allow them to conduct research in the classroom. My students work hard all year to complete a science fair project at the end of May. These projects would be improved and students would learn much more if they were able to use technology such as Chrome Books in the classroom. Most of my students do not have computers at home or in the shelters they stay. Some of them are able to use their parents phones at times for research, but that is not teaching them how to properly conduct scientific research for a science project.

Technology is necessary for students to learn early so they will be successful later in life.

My grade six students need to learn how to use computers when they begin middle school so they can continue learning and gain confidence. With the help of Chrome Books, I would be able to teach students how to find true science websites and conduct research. I would be able to differentiate instruction using the Chrome Books by letting each individuals pick what they are interested in and use a translator if they need to read in a different language.

In my science classroom now, I currently print out many articles for the students. With the help of Chrome Books, I would be able to teach the students how to find their own articles and how to research questions they might have. In my classroom we would also use these Chrome Books for Google Classroom for students who might be absent or have a quick homework question.
