My Students

In our ever growing and changing society, students need to connect the curriculum to real world experiences. They will develop critical thinking and inquiry skills through hands-on scientific investigations.

Students are all the children of active military personnel who often move from place to place.

They attend a public school, on post, and come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. In a large elementary school of over 1000, students do not often have the opportunity to engage in hands on science learning and build their critical thinking skills while having fun!

My Project

Science Sleuths will be a part of our regular curriculum, but adds the additional piece of being hands-on and allows students to connect scientific investigations to the real world. They will develop critical thinking and inquiry skills while developing a love for science. These forensic activities include using the five senses, learning about what to ask and remember at crime scenes,and using earth and physical science in investigations.

There is a huge achievement gap in the area of science.

This applies to gender, race, and socio-economics. Programs like Science Sleuths, which help students develop a love for science through hands-on investigations, will help close that gap. Further, these activities deepen scientific understanding and help build a love for science within students.
