Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Like many of us, my students need all the help they can get.
Many are thriving regardless to how little they have while others need all the extra support we can send in their direction.
Because my 5th grade range in reading levels of kindergarten to 6th grade, I am constantly trying to find ways to scaffold lessons and cater to their varied learning modalities while making sure they have all the skills and are challenged to think critically like their counterparts who live in more affluent communities. We all live by John Wooden's motto. "Don't let what you can't do stop you from doing what you can."
My Project
The Lego Mindstorms Robotics set will allow students to engage in scientific inquiry that encompasses science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. We will begin the exploration in the classroom and continue the process after school and at home.
Increased engagement means increased understanding as I strive to instill a love of learning via standards-based content.
The kits will be a gift that keeps on giving because they are reusable year after year. Your donations will allow students to work together in teams and come up with solutions on their own.
I recently volunteered my time and spent all day in a training on how to incorporated STEAM into the classroom. The professional development was great and spoke about how Legos could bring play and curiosity out of even our most reserved students. The challenges and projects were endless and hit hard on STEAM, which is what I wanted to bring to my students. All the other teachers there already had the resources in their classroom and were there to learn how to enhance their lessons. I felt like a jalopy in a room full of Mercedes. And that only made me more determined to find ways to bring the same resources to my students! So here I am, on my own time, trying to find any grants that will make this possible for my incredible students!
Donations sponsoring this project will make a real difference for students who otherwise lack the support and resources to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math-related careers. It will allow us to partake in lessons and discussions that can only happen with the resources at hand. Home extension projects can be planned for students to continue their investigations at home.
