Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Learning to write is one of the most important skills that anyone can have, especially children. My Second Graders write every day to share their stories, opinions, and learning. They also write to show what they learn in science and social studies.

Taking notes during science involves creating maps of our landforms and habitats, making tables with information we gather about plants or sand, drawing diagrams of plant growth and changes in erosion, and making graphs that illustrate quantities of animals in a particular habitat over time.

The Science Notebooks I am requesting have an area for drawing and writing as well as a page with grid lines, which will help students make straight lines for their tables and graphs. We do science twice a week, and we have three different science units in Second Grade. My aim is to have students learn to take detailed notes and use various models to illustrate their learning.

Having the appropriate writing journals is essential to help motivate students to write and continue to develop their printing skills. Primary journals provide students with a space to write that has lines that guide them in forming the letters correctly. Every morning, as students come in, they will write in their journals to share how they are feeling and anything that happened in the morning. This will be a free write quick activity. After the mid morning writing lesson, students will write again to demonstrate the writing genre that we are studying. At this time, we will focus on writing conventions, letter formation, and developing the genre that we are studying. My goal is to have students become comfortable with writing, improve their handwriting, and increase the amount that they can write in a short period of time. Writing should be easy and enjoyable.
