My students need supplies and storage for modeling scientific phenomena. Creating visual representations of the information and processes they have learned, then presenting them to classmates allows students to deepen their understanding of these concepts.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from diverse backgrounds and have diverse learning styles. I am lucky to be able to accommodate students with diverse learning needs, giving them access to rigorous, differentiated science instruction.
My students are super excited about science.
Our curriculum includes a lot of inquiry-based learning, and they are thriving with all the hands-on exploration they get to do. One of my students actually said to me "I was never really into science before. I mean, it was ok, but I was never really engaged before." They all deserve to continue to experience science as being FOR them.
My Project
Students learn science best when they are able to explore, experiment, and model ideas themselves through hands on activities. It allows them to build and deepen their understandings of the phenomena we study. Modeling also provides a differentiated opportunity for learners of all types to express what they know.
In order to continue this hands-on exploration, we need supplies!
My students often bring modeling supplies from home, but not everyone has access to these. I'd like to level the playing field for those whose families cannot afford extras, and also offer storage options for models in progress. Supplies like markers, glue, tape, and poster board provide structure for student's models, while supplies like pipe cleaners and beads serve as parts of whatever they are modeling. They have used these types of objects to represent everything from eyeballs to photons of light traveling in a straight path in our most recent unit. We also need bins to store and organize supplies so they are easily accessible to students, as well as to protect models in progress between class periods.
