My Students

My biology students are wonderful, eager scientists. Their desire for success is high, while their academic skills cover a wide range. Working together, they help each other learn about the world around them.

It's exciting to work with my students as they learn science, because they see the world with such new eyes.

Their creativity and curiosity amaze me every day. Their questions about the world around them push me to deepen my own knowledge and strengthen my teaching practice.

My Project

Browsing the shelves of a good library exposes students to more variety and ideas than looking at an online search engine. The variety of titles in my science library enables students at all reading levels to learn about people and ideas they have not encountered before.

Each week, my students spend time doing sustained, silent reading to help them develop their attention span.

Students get to choose what they want to read, so long as it's a book (not homework). Having a science library in the classroom gives students a chance to choose books that interest them and are appropriate to their reading level.
