My Students

My students are working diligently in science, covering many topics from animal classes & habitats to simple machines to electricity & various units of measurement. It's a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for the NYS gr 4 science exam. All materials are teacher made & student focused

Many of our students are at poverty level, and are immigrants new to our country.

Many of our students are English language learners and work continuously to gain a working command of the English language. Their efforts are acknowledged and celebrated when even the smallest gains are made. There is little parent involvement. Parents who can help, do. Many cannot because they lack the education or the communication skills to do so. School is a safe haven that students look forward to each day.

My Project

Many of the current materials in use, have fallen into disrepair due to age and overuse. The electrical circuit kits currently in use have faulty wires and burnt out bulbs that need replacing. The current magnets in use have actually lost their magnetic pull. The current graduated cylinders have cracked bases and leak. The students, regardless of language or socioeconomic status, look forward to coming to the science lab. Materials are used to build understanding through hands on investigations and performance tasks. With these new materials, students will be able to observe and record data accurately and won't have to worry about faulty equipment malfunctioning or leaking causing errors in calculations and an overall loss of valuable instructional time.

These donations will improve student learning outcomes as they will be able to spend more time in cooperative learning groups discussing their observations and fact checking one another's findings.

These materials will enable students to build their self confidence both in scientific investigations, as well as their communication skills as they justify their thinking using evidence from the investigation. We are building more confident thinkers and leaders for tomorrow.
