Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students come from diverse backgrounds. Our school is a title 1 school, elementary students in our district qualify for free breakfast. More than half of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Some of my students are ESL students and I have a number of special needs students.
Our community is full of hard working parents and grandparents.
They want the best for their children and their education. There are several of our students that have not been exposed to rich learning experiences such as zoos and discovery centers. This is where my teaching partner and I come in, we are charged with providing some of these experiences for our students.
My Project
I moved to Fifth grade science this summer and I could quickly tell that I didn't have all of the materials that are basic items for most labs. I went to my team teacher and learned that she had fewer supplies than I did in my room. The supplies that I have asked for will help our team teach tough scientific concepts using tools.
Several students come to us with learning gaps.
Our district is a title one district. Fifth grade students in Texas have a STAAR exam in science, as well as reading and math. I will use this lab equipment and supplies for experiments. These supplies will allow me to divide the class into smaller groups. We have units in science that include energy, weather and earth's changes, just to mention a few.
I am especially short on resources to teach the weather unit. I will use the weather items to track weather. At the end of the unit, I am planning on the students using acquired knowledge to produce and star in a weather broadcast. This equipment will be used by approximately 120 students, throughout the school year.
Any support would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for considering our need for supplies a worthy project.
