My Project

My students haven’t been taught science with much fidelity. Our first few days consisted of me convincing them how cool it all is and that they can do it. As we began our units, they really had no idea. It was amazing to see their eyes light up and hear the oohs and ahhs. Some cannot read or compute in math well, but they are realizing they can still be successful in science! My room is all set up for them to touch and experience everything to the fullest, except supplies for the experiments. They have lab tables, counters, technology, and plenty of space to perform experiments on a daily basis. We are still in need of scissors and pencil sharpener for students to be ready to create their science notebooks to show off all their learning. We will experience hands-on mixtures and solutions lessons, where students will make their own solutions and physically take apart a mixture. They will also change variables in the forces and motion unit with sandpaper representing friction and race cars of the same size and same shape but with different masses. We will use our trundle wheel to quickly measure distance to record traveled on our airplane experiment and others. By December, science will be their favorite subject!
