My Students

There is more to electricity than watching a mini-bulb light up. To truly understand electricity and circuits students need multiple opportunities to see them in action. My own son learned so much from using the snap circuits kit I want my students to experience the same excitement of discovery.

I teach fifth and sixth grade science in an inner-city school in Ohio.

The school sits between two housing projects and 100% of our students are on free lunch. Because the neighborhood is dangerous, students get few opportunities to explore their environment. It is my job to make science come alive for them within the classroom. Unfortunately, we only get $100 a year with which to buy supplies - not much to buy science materials with!

My Project

The snap circuits kits enable children to create multiple projects using electricity. The materials are easy to use because they are color coded, and each project has a detailed diagram that must be followed in order for it to work properly. Students can make an alarm, a telegraph, even a flying saucer. I want one kit for each group of four students. This will enable them to practice following directions and cooperation, while reinforcing the concepts of electricity and circuitry they need to master.

These kits will heighten student interest in a difficult topic.
