My project needs Science materials including a large set of teeth to teach about dental health, nutrition plush food group pieces to teach nutrition, science books, and science materials so that children can handle them and learn about balance and animal life.

I am a PreKindergarten teacher in a Buffalo, NY Public School. We strive to involve our students in hands-on learning activities whenever possible, and science is a major component of our curriculum. Young children learn BEST through seeing and handling objects. I am requesting a Pediatric Big Teeth & Toothbrush set so that when I teach my unit on dental health, my students can learn about proper tooth brushing techniques by seeing the model of "teeth" up close and to give them the chance to practice the brushing techniques. We also have a health unit and I am requesting a classroom stethoscope to listen to real heartbeats, and a kit to help teach about going to the doctor for checkups. When we are learning about animal life, they learn best by exploring animal models or those we bring into the classroom. I am requesting two model trees with animal models to teach about this habitat. I am also requesting big science books to help the students learn about tree habitats. All of these models and hands-on items will help my prekindergarten students learn a lot about science. It is very costly for schools to provide these kinds of "hands on" classroom items. We rarely if EVER receive these kinds of resources in our classes, and this is the reason that I am requesting science materials for my students to TOUCH. Donors who may consider this proposal should know that we will use these items over the course of many school years with many students. Giving urban students the chance to experience science materials themselves is indeed a wonderful gift. Thank you for considering funding this science proposal!
