Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an exceptional group of 8th graders who come from a very diverse group of neighborhoods around New York City. The majority are from Brooklyn, and many are low-income, as is the bulk of our school.

As students go, this particular group is incredibly inquisitive and thoughtful.

For the first time in my career I will be teaching students for a third year in a row, and I could not be more excited. The excitement they showed as they participated in labs, grappled with the "big questions" of each unit, and the dedication they showed to inquiry-based thinking was inspiring to see. Now that we are together for a third time, I am looking for new ways to engage them in learning and keep their interest level up!

My Project

Help me teach my students how to graph in a fun and simple way! As a science teacher, creating and interpreting graphs is an essential skill for my students to understand. Many students, however, come in to my science class without the skills necessary to create logical bar and line graphs. With supplies like graph paper, colored pencils, and colored dry erase markers, I should be able to help my students create and view intuitive models to allow them to practice their graphing skills and analyze teacher- and classmate-created graphs.
