My Students

I have the joy of working as the librarian at a school that only works with students ages three to twenty-one with severe/profound intellectual disabilities. Many of the students also have other disabilities including vision and other physical challenges. I work with all 145 students.

The motto at our school is "Those You Think Cannot.... Can!" and that is something that the students show us every day.

They are some of the most amazing students that you will ever meet.

My Project

My school has received a new science curriculum for the state. While they supplied a lot of the materials they have not supplied all of them and there are still some materials teachers are required to provide. With materials that the students can handle like plastic dinosaurs, prisms, mineral samples, and other hands-on materials, my students will better understand science concepts. With additional materials like sand, gravel, clay and potting soil, my students will be able to repeat experiments.

Our students will learn best and enjoy many of these hands-on activities being repeated.

The kits do provide some of the materials needed for these activities but unfortunately, many of them are disposable. Once the teacher uses them they are finished. The materials requested in this DonorsChoose.org project will allow teachers to do experiments and activities multiple times to help the students understand the concepts.
