This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The secret of getting ahead is getting started." ~Mark Twain
My preschool students' ages range between 3-5 years. They all have special needs and have the opportunity to be in a special education preschool program for 2 years before entering kindergarten to get them school ready for school!
All of the Pre-K students in my class have are students with special needs.
They are enrolled into my program (Special Education Preschool class) with an IEP (Individual Education Plan) for a 2 year program. They come to school ready to learn with a smile (almost) every day! We are on an elementary school campus (Pre-K through 5th). Even though we are the only preschool class on campus, we have the opportunity to mainstream with our older students around special activities throughout the year.
My Project
My students need a science table, STEM activities, and Science Learning Centers to motivate them to be more interested in science and exploring. The science materials for our pre-K classroom that we are requesting would be a great asset for their learning experiences. Using developmentally and age-appropriate microscopes and science related educational lesson activity games would help and enhance their learning. The science table would help have an area where their interest for investigation and experimenting would be supported.
Our goal in class is to learn through play, we also believe in guiding our play. Having opportunities for our students to explore and discover new things with science geared activities would really help spark their interests. Using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) materials that are age appropriate will pique their interest in areas that are related in our curriculum through early intervention.
If our project was funded, my students would really have set centers that would be opened and available for the students to explore and learn.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) should be a big focus in all levels of school. Having fun activities and materials to aide in the class would help students be more engaged and interested in exploring on their own.
