Science Exploration Materials & Games

My students need science materials including 1 package of magnifiers, 3 packs of forceps, 1 balance, 7 assorted games, 1 Animals CR-ROM, 1 set of discovery disks and 3 test tubes with stands. They are very excited about the "magic" of science. These materials will encourage their curiosity and exploration of science.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Not having the proper materials for my very inquisitive science students to conduct experiments is often frustrating. I am looking forward to having many "AHA" moments this year by having the materials & games my students need to become better thinkers & more curious scientists.

The Title 1 school I work at is in the Bronx, NY.

My students absolutely LOVE science. It is one of the few times during the day that they can really explore, inquire and learn. To be able to see their excitement and hear it in their voices when they are doing an experiment and sharing with their partners can't be beat.

My Project

I am requesting 1 package of magnifiers, 3 packs of forceps, 1 balance, 7 assorted games, 1 Animals CR-ROM, 1 set of discovery disks and 3 test tubes with stands. Having materials that will encourage science exploration will certainly make conducting experiments more fun for my students. Having enough magnifying lenses and forceps for each student to use will give them more time for exploration and discovery. Having to share materials often times takes the fun out of science exploration. Since many of my students are not native English speakers, the science games like "Matter Match-Up" and "Force & Motion" are a good way to reinforce the science vocabulary, which they often times struggle with learning and remembering. The games not only reinforce the vocabulary, but also help students to better remember the "big idea" of the unit of study. The animal classification game is a great visual learning tool. All of the games and materials I hope will challenge them to become better students and more curious scientists.

What my students learn in science will hopefully begin a lifelong adventure of questioning, learning and exploration.

I always tell my students that "Science is all around you if you just open your eyes and your mind." We need scientists and my hope is that future scientists will someday come from the students I teach.
