Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a teacher at P.S. 335 located in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. This year, I am teaching Math/Science in a cluster position. Our school has not have a science program in ten years and we have no resources or materials. I will be working with grades K-6 and need hands-on materials to conduct experiments. The Lakeshore company has reasonably priced kits such as the science discovery chest. It's packed full of objects to explore and experiment with. The chest has eyedroppers, straws and measuring cups to study the properties of water. Students can learn about color with the prism and food coloring; observe magnetic forces with all kinds of different magnets, magnetic marbles and iron filings; explore weight and texture with our feely bag; or examine the details of feathers, seashells and rocks with a magnifying dome! It includes over 40 activity cards with step-by-step directions to get kids exploring motion, matter, patterns, growing things and more. Everything comes packed in a sturdy five-drawer storage chest. My students will learn science through inquiry and exploration and this chest will be just what we need to begin this exciting scientific adventure!
