Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach in an PK-8 academy in an inner city. Our 5th graders are departmentalized and 60 students see 3 different teachers. Many of the children have known each other since kindergarten.
My students are great 5th graders with an avid interest for learning!
They love hands on activities that help them explore the world around them. I teach science and we love to do investigations that increase their understanding.
98% of our school is low income. Our students do not have access to learning tools at home! Most of my students have a hard time reading because they don't have access to books at home.
My Project
My students overall reading abilities are lower than average. To help them improve their reading fluency I am trying to expose them to more chances to read even in a science classroom! These are all sets of books that relate to a science topic that is taught in my classroom. These books will enable my students to become better readers as well as learn important science facts. Students who can read topics for themselves have a higher chance of retaining that information. These books will also allow these students to temporarily step outside their own worlds and explore all the universe has to offer!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
