This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Once a week we get 10 new books from the library at our independent reading level. Each year I get a few students who are reading far below grade level. Many of them are very curios and love our science time, so they look for books about science topics. One easy way to support these students is to have exciting books that they want to read. The science books will be sorted into our regular library if they are at mid-first grade level or above. If they are at a K reading level, I put them in a seperate box to make sure that students who are reading at those levels get books that they can try to decode on their own. Each week we get new books that are kept for the week and read during independent reading time. Having more titles allows students to find something interesting and not continue to pick from the same limited collection of science books.
