Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a high poverty school where several of the students receive free or reduced price lunches, and 100% receive free breakfast.

Even though my second grade students have many obstacles that make learning more difficult, I always have high expectations that they will grow and learn.

School is a safe and happy place for my students. Each day they come into the classroom excited about the day and spending time exploring and learning together! For many of my students, being at school is the best part of their day.

Keeping up with today's technology is an important part of education. Coding, financial literacy, along with STEAM activities are very important to me to teach my children.

My Project

These awesome flashlights will allow my students to read in the dark. They need a new and exciting way to read their books. We are going to start Flashlight Friday where students will pick a spot in the classroom and read their books with a flashlight.

Having flashlights to read with will motivate my students to read more.

These flashlights are the perfect size for my students. They also come in fun colors for my students to choose from.

They love having several different ways to read books, and our Flashlight Friday will be a big hit! My students will definitely love having flashlights with which to read.

We will also be using several different light sources to learn about light energy within our science curriculum. The students will learn how different light sources Increase and decrease the light energy. They will also learn about shadows and reflections through different light sources. Will a shadow be bigger with a finger light, flashlight or a tap light? What causes the shadow on the wall? How do you see yourself in a mirror? All of these questions will be answered through light sources such as flashlights, pen lights, finger lights and tap lights.
