This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to me with a strong desire to learn and an excitement for math and science! We love to do hands on activities and have enjoyed adding math and science stations to our daily schedule. It's often hard to keep stations new and novel so that is my biggest challenge right now.

I teach the bilingual (Spanish) student population at a Title 1 school in Houston, Texas.

My students are nearly all economically disadvantaged and come from Spanish speaking households. Many come to school not having enough to eat at home and sometimes their only meal is the ones we provide. Having said that, I've also observed that no matter what their perceived disadvantages, they all get excited when it's time to learn in math and science, especially when their learning includes hands-on, interactive activities and stations in which they can collaborate.

My Project

We will be using the materials to add to our math and science stations and to supplement our basic school supplies within the classroom. These already-made file folder stations will save time and will create stations that are durable and easy to use. Students will be able to use these stations without additional prep time and they will last through many years.

Creating stations allow students to learn through a variety of modes.

It also gives the teacher a chance to pull one-on-one or small groups while others work in stations or by doing file folder activities. One-on-one or small group time with the teacher is invaluable.
