My Students

My students represent a spectrum of cultural and economic backgrounds. Teachers in New Mexico are proud of our diversity and inclusiveness. Our students relish hands-on, engaging activites from which they can discover scientific principals and mathematic foundations then espress their learning creativity through writing or art. We are a small school in a village which strives to maintain it's rural heritage and connection to the Rio Grande and an agricultural lifestyle. Parents walk their lamas to school to pick up their children and we hatch eggs regularly in school.

My Project

Because creative expression and art are primary and universal languages, our school S(cience) T(echnology) E(ngineering) A(rt) M(ath) Den (because we are Cougar Cubs) will include a component of art that is tied to the science, math and tech lessons and experiences intrinsic to the Den. Art allows an entry point for everyone to higher order thinking and performance but is particularly important and accessible to children who are in the acquisition stage of ELA.

The STEAM DEN will be open and accessible to all teachers and students in Corrales Elementary School.

My shopping cart is a beginning in creating a well stocked space for children to connect their concept learning to a hands-on, creative project. We will use the origami paper to experiment with Platonic solids; geometry and to engineer, create and test flying machines and paper toys as well as to reverse engineer our creations. Scissors, tape, paper and glue will be tools for creating nature journals in which observations and data will be recorded.

I am working towards a comfortable collaborative space for students to actualize their learning through experience and creative expression.
