My Students

In my Literacy classroom, students use a LOT of paper supplies. They write about their reading, take notes, create their own writing pieces, and comment on each others' work. Some students have just enough supplies to get them through the beginning of the year. None of them should be left without.

As a teacher in a high poverty school, I can't realistically ask our parents to restock their children after the initial start-of-the-year purchasing.

The supplies I am requesting are vital for the class to run smoothly and for each student to have something to write on or with one their own supply runs out. Most of our writing is done in class, and the supplies should be easily accessible to my students right there in our room.

My Project

My students use two notebooks each day - one for reading work, and the other for writing work. The notebooks fill up quickly with ideas! Post-its are used to annotate work, to self-reflect, to share quick ideas, and to comment on others' writing. Loose leaf paper is used for assessments and final writing pieces, and they love that correction fluid to wipe away inevitable errors.

With these supplies readily available, no student will feel that they can't get started because they don't have access to the supplies to get started.

Preparedness is a key for success!
