I am a departmentalized 4th grade Reading and Social Studies teacher. My students pride themselves in being passionate readers who read to grow, learn and explore new places. My students are inquisitive, reflective, compassionate and creative young individuals who love to learn. My students are from the South Side of Chicago and are considered high-needs. They are eager readers and many of them are nearing-grade level in their reading skills. A few of them are on grade level or above grade level for reading.
I have 60 plus students in my classroom and I try to meet all of their literacy, social-emotional and physical needs.
Because of this, I work very hard to make sure my students receive the learning, resources, and exposure they need to achieve excellence.
My students will benefit from the materials listed as we make the return from distance learning to school-based learning. I want to ensure that all of my students are safe in the classroom and have access to all supplies that they may need throughout the day. Many of my students families cannot afford buy their own school supplies, and rely on sharing materials with their fellow classmates. This can be unsafe during these uncertain times.
Therefore, I have chosen supplies that will be given to each student to keep individually.
For example, my students will each be given a notebook to record independent reading logs in, a folder to keep homework and classwork in, a few pencils so that they can participate in the lessons, and storage bin for them to keep all of their supplies in one safe and clean space. This project will allow my students to fully engage in school work, without having to worry about being safe from germs.
