I have the distinct honor of working with an incredible group of students at an urban high school in a Capital city in the Northeast. Our school is located in a poverty zone with 100% of our students receiving free meals at the school. Our student population consists primarily of students with Jamaican and Hispanic heritage. We also have students who are refugees from all over the world. Currently, we are getting students from the state of Karen in Myanmar (formerly Burma) and the Middle East. Over one-third of our students are English Language Learners.
Our students form a unique family of learners who have come to know education at our school as an important component in preparing for the future.
My Project
My classroom needs the materials requested to continue provide my students with engaging hands on lessons which enables them to express their understanding in a kinesthetic manner. My students will use these materials to construct models and creatively express themselves in a holistic manner.
My classroom needs these school supplies to minimize direct instruction allowing for increased hands on learning opportunities!
These supplies will be used to make Shop Safety posters and Engineering Career Posters. The supplies will also help to organize the classroom and allow us to operate the classroom more efficiently. This grant will be highly appreciated by me and my students!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
