My Students

I teach an amazing, unique group of 4th graders! My students are kind, funny, and amazing young people who have the potential to learn and grow up successfully, but lack the means necessary. They are hardworking, determined, and just want to learn about the world they live in. Most of my students come from a high poverty neighborhood in the projects of NYC and receive free or reduced-price breakfast, lunch, and after school snacks. Many of my students are English Language Learners who have moved to NYC from different countries, where English is rarely spoken at home. I also work with students with learning disabilities.

The children in my class inspire me to not only be a better teacher, but to be a better person every day.

Some of my students come from single-parent households, live with many family members in small living conditions, live in completely different states than their parents with a grandparent/grandparents, or live with an alternative guardian. Overall, my students deal with hardships that no child should have to live with. Although they may not be able to afford the everyday materials they need to be successful, they are amazing young people that deserve the world!

My Project

There is nothing like walking up and down the aisles of an office supply store, searching for the perfect new notebook and pencils, right? Then, seeing the smile on your teachers face on the first day of school when you hand her/him the classroom supplies they asked for over the summer? Well, all of the materials in this project will alleviate the stress this causes for my students and their families. Instead, what better way to celebrate the excitement and ease the nerves of a new school year than with the necessary school supplies already waiting for you when you walk in the classroom door!

This project will ensure that my students never feel any pressure of socioeconomic or cultural differences on the first day of school.

The folders will keep my student's work organized, and the notebooks will be used for reading, writing, and math! Throughout the year, we FLY through school supplies and I would never want my students to feel as though they may have less than any other child. Additionally, the materials in this project will help me be a better, more organized, teacher. Being able to supply my students with what they need will help make my job easier and more rewarding.
