My Students

My students are kind, funny, amazing young people who have the potential to learn and grow up successfully, but lack the means necessary. They are hardworking and determined and just want to learn about the world they live in. Most of my students come from a high poverty neighborhood in the projects of NYC and receive free or reduced price breakfast, lunch, and after school snacks. A lot of my students are English Language Learners who have moved to NYC from different countries where English is rarely spoken at home.

The children in my class inspire me to not only be a better teacher, but to be a better person everyday.

Some of my students come from single parent households, live with many family members in small living conditions or live in a completely different state than their parents with a grandparent/grandparents or an alternative guardian. Overall, my students deal with hardships that no child should have to go through. They cannot afford the everyday materials that they need to be successful.

My Project

Do you remember your first day of a new school year? The excitement! The nerves! Imagine walking into a new classroom, unable to buy school supplies, feeling unprepared. What better way to celebrate the excitement and ease the nerves than with the necessary school supplies already waiting for you? I am confident that this project will enrich my students' education and help them achieve their goals. What would the first day of school be without a fresh new notebook and folders? This project will improve my classroom by having the materials and supplies I need in order to create a comfortable learning environment for all of my students. This project will also ensure that my students never feel any pressure of socio-economic or cultural differences.

The supplies from this project would give my students endless opportunities to explore and learn throughout the school day.

The notebooks and folders will be used to store and keep their amazing work safe in reading/writing, science, math and social studies. The art supplies will help enhance my students' learning by affording them the possibility to create and display beautiful social studies, science, reading, and writing work. Additionally, we create amazing self-portraits throughout the year connected to the current unit of study, which would not be possibly without these materials.
