Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are ages 8-9. The majority of my students are ELL (English Language Learners) whose parents work most of the day and into the evening. They spend most of their day in school, and in after-school programs. Sadly, my students do not get a lot of adult attention or support and come to school in need of emotional support as well as academic support.

The students that I have are hardworking, determined, grateful, and curious.

These are just a few words that describe the amazing young people that enter my classroom each day.

My students try to learn to the best of their abilities but need a lot of small group work. They are eager to learn yet oftentimes when they leave here they no longer have the English support they need. I try to engage my students in the classroom as much as I can by providing a variety of activities and send them with things to do at home to support the work we did in class. They are our future, and I want to give them a great start to their long successful careers.

My Project

My students will use these materials daily for Science, Math, class work, and extended learning projects. They use colored pencils and scissors every day for drawing science diagrams, making posters for presentations, and/or analyzing data (colorful charts and graphs). White boards spots will be place on our kidney table to be used to check for understanding in a fun, auditory, question-based format instead of on paper for math work with partnerships. Pencils are sometimes impossible to acquire or easily lost every day so being able to provide my students with them would be so helpful. The chart paper will be used for group work and presentations. The expanding File Wallet will be used to store their classwork.

My project is meant to provide each of my students with the necessary supplies for Math and Science.

In the classroom, my students are engaged daily in Math and Science. There is not a day that my students are not writing or responding to Math tasks or Science experiments. The supplies you will be helping to provide will contribute to their success with Math and Science. Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated!
