My Students

Do you know what it's like to leave your whole world behind? My students have come from all over the world to start a new life in the United States.

My students are refugees from around the world.

They come from 24 different countries and speak 28 different languages. Many of these students have never gone to school. Most of them have never gone to schools like American schools. The one thing they all have in common is that they have come here for a better life and school is where this improvement starts.

My Project

My Project: Because my students are refugees they come to school with very little. Often they do not even have the basic school supplies they need for their daily work. I am asking for pencil boxes, scissors, glue, pencils, crayons and other supplies students will need on their first day and every day after. These boxes will be ready for students when they come to school. The first day is already difficult for refugee students. Not having to worry about school supplies will be one simple way to ease some of their anxiety. My students do not understand what most of the school supplies are when they first come to school. Often they do not have the money to purchase these supplies. By making sure these supplies are available and ready for them on the first day, students will feel more secure at school and ready to succeed
