My Students

My students range from age 8-12 years old and are beautiful children. Each bringing their own special gifts and talents. Together they create an amazing class and school environment.

"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow." John Dewey.

They are wonderful people with varied talents and as a group they work amazingly well to help each other reach goals. Our school is an inner city, multicultural, low income, Title I school. I hope to help them improve their lives.

My Project

My class really needs some renewed sense of team work and collaboration. Its the time of year when the work typically gets rigorous. Uplifting team spirit is just what we need. We have an amazing football league and our school just implemented a new school mascot so we need spirit wear! School spirit is important to have in a school community. It models to students the importance of collaboration and working together as a team. I’m always making reference to our teams during academic work. I say things like, “what would happen if one team member just didn’t feeling like following the rules? How would that affect the whole team?”

What a better way to build up school spirit than with a school mascot!

We never had a mascot before so I am sure it will bring a boost of excitement and enthusiasm to all students. Wearing the shirts will help students feel connected to our community and to each other and will promote collaboration between students so that they can play, grow and learn together.

School spirit and student academic achievement are positively connected. Research has shown, students with higher levels of school spirit perform better academically, are more engaged in their school community, and are happier in general than students with less school spirit or none at all.
