My Students
I teach fifth grade reading in one of the best rural schools in Oklahoma! My students are a diverse group with varied levels. Our classroom is a space where students enjoy coming to learn, but in a non-traditional way. We are a Title I school with the majority of our students receiving free lunches. These kids have the biggest hearts you'll ever come across.
Every single one of my students has integrity, compassion, and a positive attitude.
They are truly amazing people. My school is wonderfully supportive of the project-based learning that we do in our classroom. I couldn't ask for a better environment for these students. We are truly a community!
My Project
Our school does not have an art program for our students! We need these School Specialty art supplies in our classroom to allow my students to use their creative juices and create their own masterpieces. We plan to use these supplies as we connect the novels that we read to visual art projects.
My students will create representations of the books with these art supplies by making 3D projects, storyboards, posters, banners and more!
They will also create illustrations of the poetry that they write in class. They love to use the sequin and gems and collage shapes to create the scenes from the stories they have read. They will use the pipe cleaners as they represent the setting and characters. Glitter is always a crowd favorite as they add special touches to their posters and storyboards, recreating the most important parts of the plot. The feathers and pom poms are a fun addition that allows the students to give their projects a personal flair. They will use the drying racks to store their work from day to day until it is a completed product. It is always inspiring to see what they can create from such a wonderful variety of products!
Involvement in the arts is directly associated with improvement in math, reading, cognitive ability, and verbal skills and we will use these School Specialty supplies to help us think critically. Art is an important skill that all students should have the opportunity to explore. These items will give them a chance to think outside the box and create their own learning experiences!
