Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students at Southeast Elementary have been impacted by COVID and lack of in person learning more than just academically. Because of COVID and other factors, students are struggling more than ever with their social and emotional wellness. As a school social worker, I work with our students who have experienced the greatest impact to their wellness and well-being and would use these resources to support the work that I'm already doing in empowering our next generation to be their best selves. The books on emotions help our students identify their own feelings and create their own stories on how to work through big emotions in a productive way. Culturally inclusive crafts using the skin colored hands and people cut outs shows my students that not everybody is the same and that's an incredible gift. When we have access to games, books and crafts that reflect the culturally diverse population we serve, students feel seen, heard and understood. And in turn, feeling that way helps them achieve their academic goals.
