My Students

As the Lead School Counselor for our elementary school, I'm in charge of coordinating a comprehensive, developmental school counseling program that serves all 865+ of our K-5 students. The purpose of our program is to promote growth in the areas of academic, social/emotional, and career development.

This is my 6th year as an elementary school counselor.

I work with one other counselor to provide quality school counseling services to our 865 K-5 students. We strive to provide the most effective school counseling program for our students. Our program includes many services including School Counseling Core Curriculum Lessons, Small Group and Individual Counseling, and School-Wide Initiatives. I was recently recognized at the state level as the Elementary School Counselor of the Year. I am very passionate about the school counseling profession and helping our students grow in the following three domains: Academics, Social/Emotional, and Career.

My Project

I am requesting funding to complete a quality professional development activity through the American School Counselor Association. The activity is an online training that upon successful completion results in my designation as a School Counseling Leadership Specialist. The training involves several webinars, articles, and online presentations that are included in the training costs. The additional two books requested through Amazon are the only other related costs to complete training requirements. The need for effective leaders in school counseling has never been greater. Students need school counselors to be effective educational leaders who can effect systemic change in their school. The School Counseling Leadership Specialist Training will not only educate me on what makes a good leader, but it will allow me to be a good leader in my school building and district and perhaps one day in my state school counselor association.

My students deserve a quality school counseling program to help them grow in the following domains: Academic, Social/Emotional, and Career.

I will be able to provide them with an effective program by completing the School Counseling Leadership Specialist Training as the training will allow me to become a better leader in my school building and district. My hope is that by completing this training, I will be able to lead my school counseling program through effective planning and decision-making.
