My Students

My students are my family. They are of different races, and ethnic backrounds. Some are from the poverty level. They are English Language Learners coming from different countries all over the world. The children speak one or several languages. They come to me to learn English and become proficent readers and writers.

I cannot describe how special they are.

Many of my students are newcomers to this country. They came to our beautiful city for a better life and a better chance for success. Everyday they come to school with a enthusiasm like no other. They want to learn English and they try to master complex subjects without speaking the language or knowing the key academic vocabulary needed to achieve academic success. Everyday they ask what words mean and how to become better readers and writers.

My Project

The beginning of the school year is always a stressful and sometimes scary time of year. Many students who are English Language Learners are sometimes scared and intimidated by their new school . With budget cuts and not enough literature, students sometimes do not have the proper material for group and partner work. Scholastic news will give engaging text that will be stimulating and picture friendly.

Vocabulary is sometimes hard and challenging for my students.

It is sometimes hard to find literature that is fun and at the same time age appropriate to a student's reading level. This magazine will do that.

Picture support as well as academic vocabulary support is seen throughout. It is rigorous as well as engaging for students of all ENL levels.
