This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager to learn about what is going on in the world around them. They love reading Scholastic News to keep up with current events, hot debate topics, and feature articles. For the past two years Scholastic News has been an invaluable addition to my classrooms.

My students are enthusiastic, spirited, and eager to learn.

My school is located in a diverse neighborhood in Brooklyn where many of the students are first or second generation immigrants who are learning English. My school is a high-needs, high-poverty school where our students really benefit from having access to something like Scholastic News magazine.

My Project

Scholastic News provides enrichment during nonfiction units of study in reading and writing, as well as throughout the year in Social Studies. Students often receive a new Scholastic News first thing in the morning, where they will then sit on the rug, completely engrossed in what they are reading or turning to a neighbor to discuss what they read. There are many opportunities to make connections across the curriculum with Scholastic News as a resource.

This resource will allow my students to have access to current news and events that affect them and the world around them.

It will bring enthusiasm and excitement to learning about science, social studies, and beyond.
