Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is committed to providing a safe, child-centered environment that offers students the maximum opportunity to learn and achieve academic success. Our mission is to help our students acquire literacy and become critical thinkers through a curriculum that is rich, balanced, and aligned with performance standards.

Our resources are limited, and we need your help.

These materials are for multiple fourth grade classes that are located in New York City.

Nearly all of our students are from low-income households and have extremely limited resources. Our elementary school has grades PreK-5 and houses over 600 students in two separate buildings. Basic materials have become difficult to acquire for our Title I school.

My Project

The Scholastic News magazine will help make a difference in my students' learning by allowing them to read and discuss articles of current events. It will engage them in opinion writing as a way to express their thoughts. Secondly, they will be able to have classroom debates on topics that they have recently learned about from their reading. High interest articles found in this magazine will be a great resource for whole class discussion and will be a great opportunity for the students to learn about text features such as captions, headings, bold words, charts and graphs.
