My Students

My students are in Fifth grade. They include English Language Learners, Reclassified Els, and English Language Only students. Several of my students receive Special Education and Resource services. All students at my school receive free breakfast in the classroom and free lunch. The majority of my students do not have adequate reading material at home to help them grow as readers, but they are kind-hearted and motivated to do their best. I would like to provide my students with these Scholastic News subscriptions that they have never had before.

My Project

I am requesting Scholastic News subscriptions for my students because they struggle to find reading material that is relevant for them. The current, real-world topics addressed in each issue of Scholastic News will help my struggling readers to feel motivated about their reading and improve their comprehension skills.

With Scholastic News, my students will have opportunities to work with nonfiction text that's current and engaging.

These subscriptions come with digital teaching tools for us, such as related videos. My English Learners will benefit from the differentiation supports, and Newcomers will have access to the Spanish language versions of each issue.

I plan to use all of the available resources to maximize the impact of these Scholastic News subscriptions in my classroom!
