My Students

I teach 3rd grade in the South Bronx, NY and I couldn't be happier. My students thrive on the structure created in my classroom. We start the morning off with a positive greeting which sets the tone for the day! My hope for this year is to have student lead discussions based on real world topics.

My students are kids who can't wait to get their hands on any materials presented to them.

My school encourages the love of reading, the arts, and math. We encourage all students to strive to do their best and to achieve their goals. We offer many services to the students in need, whether it be enrichment, after school, response to intervention. Using various resources helps us to reach all the different types of learners we come across.

My Project

By having Scholastic News in the classroom, this will give the students an outlet to read a news article geared for their age group, reading level and most importantly their comprehension level. I will be utilizing Scholastic News to help with current events. I think it is important that the students know what is going on in the world, nationally, and locally. This will afford them the opportunity to read about it in a way that is engaging and understandable. After reading the articles provided to us by Scholastic News, the students will be able to eventually to have student driven discussion about various topics. They will be able to form an opinion about the topic and back up their position using facts and details from the articles. This will help them to enjoy reading non fiction as well as gain the knowledge of current events.

The donation of Scholastic news will open the eyes of the students to what is going on around them.

It will also help them to formulate opinions and help jump start great discussions based on what we have read. I think it will help change the lives of the students become well rounded students. They will be aware of some of the issues that the world is facing and it will be presented in a way they understand and can relate to.
