My Students

As a teacher in a low income/high poverty school, my students constantly encounter a number of different challenges both in and out of the classroom. In spite of these challenges, I am determined to create a welcoming, creative, and comfortable learning environment.

My students are the perfect blend of calm, excited, loud, quiet and so much more!

They love tons of positive attention and encouraging words. Over 60% of the students qualify for free/reduced-price lunch based on their low socioeconomic status. As a teacher, I don't allow this status to prevent them from learning as much as they should. I want to provide them with as many authentic and meaningful experiences within the classroom. No matter what's happening outside of my classroom, I at least want to control their experiences as they work and learn during the school day.

My Project

Students spend a vast majority of their time in school. If students have flexible seating options, this will enable them to work to their full potential without the use of cold, hard, traditional chairs. These options include yoga balls, scoop rockers, office chairs, lounge chairs, and balance discs. With flexible seating options, this significantly minimizes task avoidance and behavior issues that may arise. This also provides the necessary movement and stimulation that a lot of students require within the classroom. Your generous donation will change my students' lives for the better because they will love school, feel successful and have fun as they learn. I am also grateful to be part of an organization like APTE that supports and believes in educators such as myself.
