Help me give my students diverse books to read in the classroom. Reading should be fun and engaging for all students. Our students come from diverse backgrounds, and I want them to relate to the stories they read.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are requesting diverse books for our classroom for our students to read. Providing diversity in teaching is important because our students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Reading should be engaging and fun when it comes to comprehending what these readers are reading about. I implement small group reading with myself or my TA. During this time, we read the same book and discuss the main themes and characters, and students have the opportunity to share their thoughts or personal experiences. I want to provide equity learning for all my students and I want them to feel proud of what they are reading. As simple as relating to a character in the story because of their experiences. I am also asking for blank books because I want to motivate my students to be able to write their own stories. My students come from low-income communities, and I want to create a safe space for my students to share whatever they have experienced in life already or create a space for them to be creative. Finally, I want to demonstrate that all my students are capable of being readers, writers, and lifelong learners.
