Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What better way to help students develop life skills than to teach them to show kindness to the entire school community. This Community Service Project will have my students creating art to share with the school community. Various materials have been selected based on the different grade levels in our school community. My students will write notes of kindness and love and attach them to a gift of friendship bracelets, mini bubble wands, squishies, and journals. Each grade level will have their gift tailored to the students in that grade.

The students in my classroom will explore ways to spread kindness within the school community.

Then they will have the opportunity to select which materials will go to each grade level. My students will be so excited to deliver these resources to all the other classrooms in the school.

Upon completion of this project, students will have a better idea of how to help others and reflect upon the joy that giving back to the community makes you feel. Students will make posters to hang in our hallway that document their journey of learning compassion, showing kindness, and sharing with others.

Our school community is located in a high-poverty area and the school is a safe haven for my students. I am so proud of the effort the students make every day despite everything that they have experienced in their young lives. Engagement and focus are keywords in our changing learning environment and this project is the perfect addition to our classroom resources.
